Comm-Eng Rivalry Game

2023-24 Rivalry Game

On March 14, 2024, the seventh annual Comm-Eng Rivalry Game was held in front of a sold-out crowd at Slush Puppie Place in Kingston, Ontario. Both in-person and remote fans witnessed a profound display of community support in the fight against cancer.

Ahead of the opening face-off, fans and players united in a powerful demonstration, hoisting "I fight for" signs in honour of those touched by cancer. The event continued with a ceremonial puck drop featuring entrepreneur and Queen's alumnus Stephen Smith, representatives from the Canadian Cancer Society, and cancer survivor Brock Powell.

The Smith Commerce team clinched a resounding 7-3 victory over Smith Engineering, adding another chapter to their storied rivalry. You can relive the action by watching the game replay here. The true triumph of the evening, however, was the collective effort to raise funds for cancer research.

Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of sponsors, donors, and attendees, the rivalry game raised $338,344 after a dollar-for-dollar match from the Canadian Cancer Society, contributing to a record-breaking annual total of $624,103. These funds will directly fuel cancer research initiatives led by the Canadian Cancer Trials Group in Kingston, as well as support the groundbreaking work of Dr. Gelareh Zadeh's Lab, in partnership with Brain Canada.
